Geothermal/Geoexchange
Geothermal energy is an enormous, underused heat and power resource that is clean (emits little or no greenhouse gases), reliable (average system availability of 95%), and homegrown (making us less dependent on foreign oil). True geothermal uses hot water and steam from the earth to provide power, and is usually available in the West and Midwest regions of the country. The Center for Sustainable Energy provides a course on Geoexchange, which is simply using the earth’s thermal storage capacity either to absorb heat or to provide heat, depending on whether you need to heat or cool a building, by getting below the “frost line.” Education & Training Program Listen to an interview with David Ortiz |
