Areas of Focus

All five boroughs in New York City are non-attainment zones*. The impact is especially difficult on the Bronx borough, which is one of the poorest districts in the country. This health crisis, along with environmental issues, energy demand, and public outcry, has prompted policy makers to mandate new renewable energy and efficiency requirements at the federal, state and city levels. Policies like these are driving research and pushing new technology into commercialization. They will require a skilled workforce to install and maintain these emerging technologies which will soon be a mainstay of society.

The Center for Sustainable Energy recognized the opportunity to further research, help address the region’s health issues, train the workforce of the future for these new ‘green collar jobs’ and to the help renewable energy businesses in the community capture the growing energy sector market.
